The world has a lot to say about dairy. There’s plenty of factual information out there, research studies, albeit some inconclusive information, and MANY opinions. We want to try our best to share reliable resources with you for you to make the best-informed decisions for you and your family concerning whatever products you chose to consume. We don’t camp on one side or the other of the raw vs pasteurized debate. While it is true that commodity milk (milk sold solely for the purpose of pasteurization) is held to initial lower bacterial count standards (<100,000 cfu/mL), simply because it is not intended to be consumed raw, not all “conventional farms” that commodity sell milk are bad, not all raw milk herd shares are perfect, and vice versa. We support responsible dairy farmers on either side of the fence, those that are stewards of the land and their animals. Our farm is rather unique in that we do also bulk sell milk as a commodity, but graze our cows in green pastures, and because we offer herd shares, hold our milk and our procedures to higher standards. We will defend that contrary to what most raw milk literature will say, conventional dairy farms like ours (and those that may be somewhat different) ARE held to strict standards concerning product quality and animal welfare, by our co-ops and let alone personal integrity. We do CHOOSE to dairy farm, it wouldn’t make much sense to choose to do it poorly. We care about our cows’ health and well-being, do everything in our power to keep them in good health and healthy conditions, and have lab results to speak for that. In saying all this, we would like it to be borne in mind that because we share a resource with you, doesn’t necessarily mean we agree with every opinion article that may be associated with it (i.e. we support fresh, raw milk and all of its health benefits, but we’re not into bashing conventional dairy farming, because we know more than plenty of responsible, wonderful conventional dairies, full of healthy, loved cows). It’s safe to say in general, that we support fellow honest, good farmers of all kinds, and ask for your kindness and objectivity in your own research.
